Over 58,000 dog tags of the men and woman lost in Vietnam hang in the National Veterans Art Museum in Chicago.

Any air movement around the art piece causes it to sound like a ghostly set of wind chimes. Click image for larger view.
In Chicago, the National Veterans Art Museum has had a 10 X 40 foot work entitled the Above and Beyond Campaign which displays over 58,000 imprinted dog tags — with the names of each man and woman lost in Vietnam. It has been described as a massive ghostly set of wind chimes because of the sound the metal remembrances make when there is air movement around and through the work.
The Above and Beyond Campaign is not currently on display. It is being moved to the museum’s new location on Chicago’s North Side (4041 North Milwaukee Ave.). Relocating the work is an expensive proposition. War Zone Wear is a proud contributor to this effort. You can donate as well — in the name(s) of specific individuals if you like — through your PayPal account here.
As we begin this Memorial Day weekend, we salute and offer a heart felt “Welcome Home” to veterans of all conflicts as we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for America from the Revolutionary War to Afghanistan.
Thanks to our Chicago friend Suzanne for bringing this to our attention!
