In Chicago, the National Veterans Art Museum has had a 10 X 40 foot work entitled the Above and Beyond Campaign which displays over 58,000 imprinted dog tags — with the names of each man and woman lost in Vietnam. It has been described as a massive ghostly set of wind chimes because of the sound the metal remembrances make when there is air movement around and through the work.

The Above and Beyond Campaign is not currently on display. It is being moved to the museum’s new location on Chicago’s North Side (4041 North Milwaukee Ave.). Relocating the work is an expensive proposition. War Zone Wear is a proud contributor to this effort. You can donate as well — in the name(s) of specific individuals if you  like — through your PayPal account here.

As we begin this Memorial Day weekend, we salute and offer a heart felt “Welcome Home” to veterans of all conflicts as we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for America from the Revolutionary War to Afghanistan.

Thanks to our Chicago friend Suzanne for bringing this to our attention! :-)

Basil L. Plumley

Basil L. Plumley

Command Sergeant Major (Retired) Basil L. Plumley is one of America’s quiet heroes. It’s difficult to tell from the photo above, however CSM Plumley is wearing the following — in part — decorations:

Basil Plumley has been diagnosed with cancer and is receiving hospice care in Columbus, Georgia. His wife Deurice, died on May 28, 2012.

He was portrayed by Sam Elliott in the 2002 film, We Were Soldiers. Men like CSM Plumley don’t come along very often unfortunately.

If you are in the service, or know someone who is in the service, we urge you to share the HeroesVote.org site with them. The upcoming election may well be one of the most important in America’s history. Our military members are already at a disadvantage in terms of casting their ballots. WZW urges each and every one of America’s Heroes to vote!

Happy Birthday — U.S. Army and Flag Day!

U.S. Army’s 237th Birthday

Just a quick shout-out to say Happy Birthday to the U.S. Army! Formed 237 years ago in 1775, we’d just like to say Thank You to all current and former Army members! Of course we appreciate all current and past members of all the Service Branches as well!

And . . . it’s Flag Day! Though some suggest that America is not exceptional, we believe that premise couldn’t be farther from the truth! So, let Old Glory wave proudly over the most incredible country on the planet . . . to date!

Thanks! :-)

Veterans’ Airlift Command

Veterans Airlift Command
Veterans Airlift Command
Our old — and good — friend Jeff Bassett suggested we add the Veterans Airlift Command (VAC) to the WarZoneWear.com “Veterans and Veterans Families” page. We’ve done so, and also become a proud contributor to the VAC. Through a national network of volunteer aircraft owners and pilots like Jeff, these folks do an incredible job supporting our Wounded Warriors!

We urge you to give them your support!
